Supported Groupware Servers

In this section you find the status of KDE Kontact regarding different groupware servers.

Note: This is the status as of KDE PIM 3.4, which ships Kontact 1.1.

The Kolab Project

Kolab is the product of a series of contracts for the German governments federal office for Security in the Information Technology. Its strengths are extreme scalability, high standard compliance and a vital community.

An enterprise-oriented Kontact Kolab Client (current revision is proko 2.1.7) is maintained by the Kolab-Konsortium.

Status: Kolab 2.1.0 Final and Kolab 2.0 are supported by current Kontact (Version 1.2.3)

SUSE Linux Openexchange Server (SLOX) 4.1

From their website: "SUSE Linux Openexchange Server 4.1 is the trend-setting groupware and communication solution that helps your company to progress - with superior technical features, far-reaching hardware independence, smooth migration, and a wide range of supported clients including Outlook clients from Outlook 98 and various web browsers. "

Status: SUSE Linux Openexchange Server is supported by Kontact 1.0

eGroupWare 1.0

eGroupWare is a fork of phpGroupWare. Both projects have a web interface, but can also be accessed by KDE Kontact using XMLRPC.

Status: eGroupWare supported by Kontact 1.0.

OpenGroupware.org

OpenGroupware is a free groupware solution derived from Skyrix.

Status: Support for OpenGroupware.org is partly implemented in KDE Kontact as of KDE PIM 3.4

Citadel

Citadel is a unique groupware and collaboration server that focuses on building online communities instead of on automating business processes. All of its data stores are built-in and it is very easy to install.

Status: As of version 3.4 of Kontact and version 6.41 of the Citadel system, all the major functions (calendar, address book, mail, free/busy) are supported. This is mainly due to the addition of the GroupDAV protocol, which we hope will grow to become an online standard.

Microsoft® Exchange Server™ 2000

These products are most widely used for groupware functionality. They are the two faces of Microsoft's groupware: Exchange 2000 focuses on messaging and SharePoint serves as information sharing portal. With support for these products you can use KDE Kontact in native Windows workgroups.

Status: Support for Exchange is partly implemented in KDE Kontact. If you use it, please bear in mind that it is not supported. If you want to help, please contact the KDE PIM team.

Novell® GroupWise™ 6.5

From the product page: "Novell GroupWise 6.5 - a member of the Novell Nterprise family of solutions - is a premier communication and collaboration tool. It provides an effective and innovative approach to collaboration services - an approach that delivers security, control and mobility, while reducing the cost of managing and maintaining essential communication and collaboration services."

Status: Support for Novell® GroupWise™ 6.5 has mostly been implemented and will be provided with the next major release of Kontact in KDE PIM 3.4. If you want to help, please contact the KDE PIM team.
